Bi Tao (sketch + story extra)
Tumblr media
Part 2 of putting everyone in hanfus, I think Li Ling and Yun Chuan might be next I think!
Tumblr media
Another short story, I did a bit of character study and put my own twist on it! Some quotes are directly from his esper profile thing lol.
(English isn’t my first language, sorry! I still think I ate with this one)
Steam curled languidly around Bi Tao’s face, masking the sharp lines of his features. The man lounged against the slick stone edge, water lapping against his chest as faint tendrils of purple smoke mingled into the mist from the pipe that hung from his lips.
The scene replayed in his mind again and again—the way Lü Shang had stared at him, calm and unbothered, as if Bi Tao were nothing but air.
He drew a deep pull from the pipe, the bitter tang of the herbs attacking his tastebuds. Yet it couldn’t compare to the bitterness left in his heart as the words left Lü Shangs lips
“Shixiong, you must be mistaken” Lü Shang had said, with maddening politeness. No sneer, no edge of malice. Just indifference.
Bi Tao let out a low Humorless laugh, smoke spilled from his mouth and billowed around him, disturbing the lazily rising mist around him. Shixiong, he had said, as though they were equals.
Bi Tao clenched his teeth, biting down on the pipe until it creaked. He had cut the man off before he could finish, spitting venomous words about long-forgotten debts, declaring him his arch nemesis.
And what had Lü Shang done? He had only looked at him with that same maddening, infuriating calmness, as though Bi Tao were a stranger.
He doesn't even remember me.
“Shizun clearly doesn’t know what you’re talking about!” He couldn’t even remember the girl who had spoken up for her Shizun.
“Shizun.” The words tasted like bile, souring on his tongue as his lips twisted into a sneer. "You don't deserve that title. You never did."
He flicked ash from his pipe into the spring. Lü Shang. The calm, collected, beloved Lü Shang was everything Bi Tao despised. He was content to sit by a lake and fish, to guide one last disciple with sincerity, as though the past hadn't left scars. As though the efforts Bi Tao spent to ruin his imagine didn’t even leave a scratch.
Lü Shang is a calm pond, full of fish, clear and shallow. He doesn't know what it means to boil. To seethe. To claw one's way to the top.
Bi Tao remembered that day clearly. The courtyard was crowded with elders and disciples as he prepared for his speech, rehearsing every word meticulously. It was meant to be his moment.
But his cultivation faltered. He staggered, his vision blurred and his voice was trapped in his throat. The last thing he saw before collapsing was the shimmer of Lü Shang's robes—the perfect Shidi who had captured everyone's hearts.
When Bi Tao awoke in shame, no one spoke of his failure; instead, they whispered of how Lü Shang had carried him from the stage like a tragic hero.
He stole my moment
Bi Tao slammed the pipe into the water, sending ripples across the surface. He leaned forward as he watched the embers of the pipe extinguish and go under, his long hair clung to his face. He had spent years clawing his way back from that humiliation. Years of scheming, strategizing, and plotting to rise above all others.
“One day, you’ll pay twice over for the past”
But no matter how far he climbed, no matter how many enemies he crushed beneath his heel, Lü Shang always came out stronger.
But that wasn’t the worst part.
The worst part had to be the truth.
Bi Tao’s nails scraped against the stone. A fantasy twisted in his mind, he imagined looming over Lü Shangs lifeless body, imagined his polite expression faltering. Yet… Victory felt hollow in his heart. It always had- What he truly wanted, he realized, was not Lü Shang’s defeat.
It was his attention.

So about the new dislyte update... I'm not really sure I like the idea of having a whole new type of esper. I'm glad they went back on that transcendence thing, but I think they could just stop coming up with new gimmicks.
And yes, I'm once again saying they should bring the bounty stories and diaries back
Or, you know, actually finish the bond tales stuff that has been rotting in the esper gallery for years now

Design for Dislyte AU of Homestuck, first with John Egbert.
In this AU John is an esper blessed with the powers of Feng Po Po, acquiring her powers of the wind and sky after syncing with divine waves. He doesn't belong to any group or organization dedicated to researching Esperhood, but has friends involved with such organizations who he helps on occasion.

Disciple Yu Jing and her Shizun Lü Shang
Tumblr media
Part 1 of putting dislyte characters in hanfus *rubs hands* watch out for Bi Tao next :p
Short wholesome story extra: (btw english isn’t my first language and I only write for fun!!)
Lü Shang sat on a weathered stone, holding a fishing rod loosely in his hands. The sun had risen on the horizon and slowly crept further across the lake surface until it reached the man.
This secluded and serene place was his sole refuge from the burdens of his memories. At times, it felt too quiet—quiet enough for the muddled pleas in the back of his mind to resurface. These voices were heavy, yet not heavy enough to sink to the depths of his consciousness.
The cries of his disciples echoed faintly, disturbing the tranquility of his rippleless mind. He has long given up on fishing out the ghosts of his past. They came unbidden, reminders of failure, yet he let them be. It was a punishment he believed he deserved.
“Shizun!”
He ignored it.
“Shizun!”
Only a soft splash jolted him back, hoping it was the tug of a fish but as he peered at the surface of the pond he saw a face that wasn’t his own.
“Shizun, did you fall asleep?”
A bright and familiar voice sounded near him. Yu Jing stood a few paces behind, holding what appeared to be something wrapped in paper.
Lü Shang sighed, his voice quiet but not unkind.“Why are you not at morning practice?”
She grinned and held up that ‘something wrapped in paper’, “Candied hawthorn! And—” then she took something out of her qiankun pouch. “A steamed bun! You didn’t eat breakfast again, did you?”
His stomach betrayed him with a faint growl before he could rebuke so he averted his gaze, choosing to close his eyes and focus on the calmness of the lake.
Yu Jing didn’t wait for permission and plopped down next to him, offering him the unwrapped bun. “Shizun, you can’t fish if the fishies can hear your stomach growling!”
He hesitated then accepted the bun. “Thank you, Yu Jing”
The young woman beamed at him before happily gnawing on her Tang Hulu. “Fishing doesn’t seem very fun,” she mused between mouthfuls “it’s just sitting and waiting, I’m sure Shizun has a spell to catch fish more efficiently.”
Lü Shang smiled faintly. “It’s not about efficiency, fishing is meditative, it’s a way to calm the mind”
“Does it work for you?”
The question was innocent yet it struck like a blade. He glanced at her, the light in her round eyes were so bright, so earnest and so free of judgement.
“Sometimes…” he said at last.
A comfortable silence settled between them, broken only by the occasional chirping of the birds.
“But you always look so sad when you're here,” Sje said softly “At least let me keep you company.”
He neither agreed nor disagreed, but he didn’t send her away. Yu Jing's attempts to cheer him up were as clear as the water in the lake, so he allowed her to chatter on while he took bites of the warm bun.
Each bite felt as comforting as her presence. She was the last of his disciples— the final bright ember of a fire that had long since extinguished. In the end he knew he couldn’t undo the past but he’d give his all to shield the last glow.
